Hoffmeister Has Hat Trick in Win

Maroons Beat Hollins, 7-0, Olds Assists on Two Scores

ROANOKE, VA--Roanoke College sophomore Jill Hoffmeister (Norfolk, MA/The Rivers School) scored three goals to lead the women’s soccer team to a 7-0 win at Hollins University on Thursday afternoon. The Maroons improve to 12-3 on the season and 8-2 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. Hoffmeister, who scored Roanoke’s first, third, and seventh goals brought her seasons’ total to 11, one off the team lead.

Hoffmeister got the Maroons on the board just 3:28 into the contest, finishing a pass from Taylor Howe (Winchester, MA/Winchester). About 14 minutes later, Emily Ocheltree (Richmond, VA/Douglas Freeman) made the score 2-0 in favor of the Maroons after taking a long throw-in from Shelley Olds (Gilroy, CA/Groton-Dunstable (MA)). Olds had two assists in the win, bringing her career point total to 97. She is already the team’s all-time leading scorer and is just three points shy of 100 for her career.

After Hoffmeister added her second goal, Kelsy Ross (North Yarmouth, ME/Greely) and Amy Whittle (Stafford, VA/Stafford) closed out the Maroons’ scoring in the first half, giving the team a 5-0 intermission lead. Ross’ goal came after a long crossing pass from Olds, while Whittle collected a loose ball and beat the HU keeper low to the leftside. Colleen Daugherty (Lynchburg, VA/Brookville) one-touched in a goal in the 48th minute and Hoffmeister closed out the RC scoring to give the Maroons the 7-0 win.

The Maroons travel to North Carolina Wesleyan on Saturday and then return home next Wednesday in a match against the Eagles of Bridgewater College.
