Three Get All-Region Honors

Olds and Hoffmeister Also All-State Picks

SALEM, VA--The Roanoke College women’s soccer team placed three student-athletes on the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-South region team and two on the All-State squad. Junior captain Shelley Olds (Gilroy, CA/Groton-Dunstable (MA)) was a First Team selection on both teams, while freshman Jill Hoffmeister (Norfolk, MA/The Rivers School) earned a spot on the All-State First Team and Second Team honors on the All-Region team. Sophomore defender Jess Germano (Windham, ME/Windham) was a Second Team All-South Region pick.

Olds completed the 2001 season with 29 points on 10 goals and nine assists. The third leading scorer in team history, Olds earned her second consecutive spot on the First Team All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference squad this season.

Hoffmeister set the Roanoke College single-season scoring record with 46 points on the season. She broke the old college single-season goals scored mark by scoring 21 as a freshman, three better than the old standard. She was a First Team All-ODAC pick and the ODAC Rookie of the Year.

Germano developed into one of the ODAC’s top marking backs as a sophomore, earning Second Team All-Conference accolades following a season in which she started 19 of RC’s 20 contests and recorded four points on four assists.

The Maroons, under the guidance of Phil Benne, completed the season with a 15-4-1 overall record. The Maroons advanced to the championship game of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference tournament where they lost to Lynchburg 2-1 in double-overtime.
