Shaver Named ODAC Player of the Week
Defender is Second Maroons in Two Weeks to Get Award
SALEM, VA--Roanoke College junior Katy Shaver (Skaneateles, NY/Skaneateles) has been named the Old Dominion Athletic Conference women’s lacrosse Player of the Week the league announced on Monday. Shaver, a defender, is the second Maroon in as many weeks to receive the award, her honors coming a week after Steph Calabrese received the same accolades. Shaver also becomes the first ODAC defender to receive the award in over two seasons. For the week, Shaver, a Second Team All-Conference selection last season, recorded 23 caused turnovers and picked up 12 groundballs. In a road win over Bridgewater, she had 11 CTs and won seven groundballs. In Saturday’s win at Virginia Wesleyan, she had 12 caused turnovers and won five loose balls. In the two games, Shaver had just two turnovers herself, both coming in the 16-12 Virginia Wesleyan victory. For the season, Shaver, who has started all five games for the Maroons, leads the team in both caused turnovers (38) and groundballs (25).
The Maroons are currently 5-0 on the season and 3-0 in ODAC play. They will get a tough test on Thursday as they host the Hornets of Lynchburg College. The Hornets enter the games with a 3-0 record, including a 1-0 conference mark. The game in Salem begins at 4:00pm.
