Maroons Run Streak to Six
Melissa Slusher Gets 17 Kills, Rajsich 11 Digs
WINCHESTER, VA--The Roanoke College volleyball team extended its winning streak to six matches with a straight sets win over host Shenandoah University on Saturday afternoon. The Maroons won the three games, 30-19, 30-22, 30-25. RC’s current six-match winning streak is the team’s longest since the 1995 season. The Maroons are now 11-5 on the 2001 season and return to action at Bridgewater College on Tuesday. Melissa Slusher (Altavista, VA/Altavista) had another strong offensive day for the Maroons, leading all Roanoke players with 17 kills. In the past two matches, Slusher has 44 kills, including 27 in a 3-1 win over Randolph-Macon on Wednesday. Heather Cook (Dublin, VA/Pulaski) had 12 kills on Saturday, while freshman middle blocker Ashley Ferris (Roanoke, VA/Northside) added seven.
Holly Holland (Roanoke, VA/William Byrd) had 41 assists, while Audra Rajsich (Flagstaff, AZ/Coconino) was again Roanoke’s defensive standout with 11 digs. Jennifer West (Wytheville, VA/George Wythe) had six digs, while Carly Zillig (Treasure Island, FL/Shorecrest Prep) and Lori Dillon (Roanoke, VA/Patrick Henry) each posted five.
